NASPAA Communications and Marketing Toolkit
NASPAA is developing a global brand for you to use so that we may collectively better market the MPA/MPP degrees, as well as the schools who offer them. The following statement describes what we have learned, our key messages, and why it is important for your school to use the materials and resources in the Toolkit.
The Toolkit is designed for you to distribute and delegate to your staff members at your school.
Sharing the Toolkit with individuals across your program allows each individual to choose and use the tools that will help them better promote your school locally, regionally, and nationally. We recommend that you share the Toolkit with the following individuals: dean/program director/program chair, career director, administrative assistant(s)/office manager(s), web and IT staff, marketing and communications staff, admissions staff, students (i.e., Graduate Assistants/interns, student group leaders), and others.
OUR MARKETING APPROACH: We are in the business of broadly marketing the MPA/MPP degrees: 1) to compel students to obtain a professional graduate degree that will help them develop their skills for a career in public service, 2) to educate employers and the public about the value that MPA/MPP graduates bring to public service, and 3) to increase alumni loyalty to schools and the MPA/MPP degrees.
NASPAA and its member schools need to “claim space” within the graduate degree market, especially as MBA and law schools are increasingly aiming their recruitment activity towards our natural audience: those seeking work in the public sector. Our task then is to clearly state why MPA/MPP degrees are better suited for those who want to make a difference and serve the public.
